Speaker Boehner implies that this plan to extort President Obama was not his idea, but he's being forced into it by right-wing extremists, more commonly known as the "Tea Party." The grand plan put forth by the Grand Ol' Party is to allow the United States to default on its debts and shutdown the government unless the Affordable Care Act is defunded. They are refusing to pass bills to fund healthcare and risking the nation's credit rating and reputation to do so, clearly forgetting Reagan's words from September 26, 1987.
If the debt ceiling is not raised, Congress would have to stop paying Social Security benefits, Medicare benefits, military salaries, and interest on the national debt. If the nation's credit rating drops because of the default, that now makes the cost of borrowing money that much higher. In essence, shutting down the government would cost everyone more in the long run. Republicans never think of the big picture, they don't know their own party's history, and they are only interested in instant gratification. What kind of gratification is there in shutting down the government and failing to pay millions of American people the benefits they are entitled to? A temporary victory against our president?
You hate him more than you care about the American people. Republican congresspersons should be ashamed of themselves.
Raising the debt ceiling does not increase our debt. Shutting down the government does increase our debt.
President Ronald Reagan would have never stood for this and his own party seems to be forgetting or ignoring (or maybe they are ignorant of) Reagan's words:
Reagan raised the debt ceiling 18 times. He thought it was irresponsible of Congress to play games with the nation's finances.
If this is the man that stands for the Republican party and exhibits the true leadership you Republicans "say" you want, better listen up and don't let the Teapublicans bully you or you're just another hypocrite.
