Melissa Harris-Perry is back with more socialism! In yet another "Lean Forward" spot, the MSNBC host says "You do have the right to health care, and to education, and to decent housing and to quality food at all times."
She forgot clothing. People do not have a right to clothing? As long as it isn't fur. Harris-Perry was recently in the news for a spot where she says that Americans need to "break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities." The idea that kids belong to the state and not their parents is just creepy.
Of course, her socialist vision sounds lovely; but all Utopian dreams sound amazing in theory. Perhaps, Harris-Perry has forgotten that in America, the Declaration of Independence makes clear:
- We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
"Quality food" is not a right. In America, people are empowered to work hard and enjoy the fruits of their labor. The Bill of Rights can be found here, should Melissa Harris-Perry need a refresher. The MSNBC host is describing a socialist society. America is a country based on individual freedom. America has become a superpower because she gives a hand-up; not a hand-out. Big difference. As the late, great former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher said,
- "Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people's money. It's quite a characteristic of them."
