State Rep. Joe Salazar gave astounding advice to women on how to avoid rape during a discussion about House Bill 1226, A Colorado law "that would ban concealed weapons permit holders from carrying guns on public college campuses." The law passed.
Connor Sheets from the International Business Times reports that Salazar suggested that women use rape whistles, safe zones and 911 Call boxes in lieu of a gun if a woman fears a rapist may attack. "It's why we have call boxes, it's why we have safe zones, it's why we have the whistles," he said. He also believes that "women on college campuses shouldn't be trusted with firearms to protect themselves because they might fire carelessly upon feeling threatened," as reported by KDVR.
Additionally, the Department of Public Safety at the University of Colorado also had some advice, including "Kick off your shoes," tell the attacker "that you have a disease or are menstruating," and "Vomiting or urinating may also convince the attacker to leave you alone." So, if a student feels that she is threatened by a rapist, she should vomit and urinate and tell her attacker she is "menstruating?"

The truth is that taking away people's ability to protect themselves, especially vulnerable people like would-be rape victims and the elderly will only empower the criminal, who could give a hoot about rape whistles and call boxes.

You should advise your readers that if face to face with the assailant he can be discouraged from pressing the attack if the intended victim drives the heel of her hand upwards as hard as possible under the nose. Then follow up with straight fingers to the windpipe. Then leave the area, no need to worry about calling 911, if it's done well he does not have enough time for an ambulance to arrive.
A variation is to keep a pen handy, the cheap, plastic kind, BIC brand have a good, solid point. Ram one of those up an assailant's nostril and ... well there's blood and snot obviously but the bones at the top of the nasal passage are very thin, there could be brains too.
The next stage is advice to those grabbed from behind. Now the right kind of footware in a big help here, doesn't have to be stilettos though they are the best, any good hard heel will do. Just stamp down on the instep, metatarsals are very fragile and he isn't going to be moving very fast with broken bones in his foot.
Now I have handed out this good advice, we need to recruit a likely lass to go and demonstrate it to Mr. Salazar. In the end he might agree being intimidated by someone waving a gun in his face is preferable to having extreme physical pain inflicted.
