Gun confiscation legislation has been proposed in Missouri, which gives citizens "legally in possession of an assault weapon or large capacity magazine" ninety days to "surrender, destroy or remove these currently lawful items from Missouri."
The legislation has been proposed by State Representatives Rory Ellinger and Jill Schupp, who introduced House Bill 545, an anti second amendment law "that would turn many law-abiding gun owners into felons," as reported by the Institute for Legislative action. Although the anti-second amendment crowd regularly says that confiscation is not the ultimate goal, their words and disdain for gun-owners (other than themselves and their armed guards) indicate otherwise. As reported by the Institute, "Criminals—by definition—violate laws, especially gun control laws. They will never surrender their firearms, or comply with any gun control scheme." The unconstitutional Missouri law would only hurt those comply with the law.
House Bill 545 is clear, if one does not give up his or her legally acquired weapon, a law-abiding citizen could be charged with a "Class C felony". Recently, Canadian News Anchor Brian Lilley stated that "even though confiscation concerns were "dismissed" and "ridiculed" in Canada when a national database for gun owners was proposed, that is exactly what happened when their weapons were eventually deemed 'illegal.'" His warning to America should not fall on deaf ears. Gun Confiscation Legislation House Bill 545 should be struck down.
