Gun control may be imposed by an executive order, according to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. President Obama has long been an advocate of restricting Second Amendment rights for Americans, despite the proven ineffectiveness of such legislation. Consider that Adam Lanza broke several anti-gun laws in his firearms-restrictive state, Connecticut.
Reuters reports that Obama "will consider executive actions and specific proposals for legislation as part of its gun policy response to the school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, U.S." The kneejerk, reactional approach to the Newtown shooting is not quite as "kneejerk" as one may think. This is political opportunism, pure and simple. As stated by Rep. Jerrold Nadler on MSNBC's "The Ed Show," regarding the anti-gun agenda, "I think we will be there if the president exploits it, and otherwise we'll go on to the next [incident]."
The "Never Let a Crisis Go to Waste" crowd manufactures crisis to whip the low-information voters into a frenzy, calling on them to support their efforts to "do something". Consider that despite the hand-wringing, mass shootings are actually on the decline, as found by James Alan Fox, a professor of criminology, law and public policy at Northeastern University and homicide rates have also been steadily dropping in America.
President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder and their posse, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have long been advocates of restoring the ill-defined assault weapons ban.
Some believe that Operation Fast and Furious was ultimately being used as a pathetic attempt to justify a gun control agenda. CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson. for example, declared that the ATF used Operation Fast and Furious to "argue for controversial new rules about gun sales." The article states that "emails show they [ATF officials] discussed using the sales, including sales encouraged by ATF, to justify a new gun regulation called 'Demand Letter 3.'" It sounds crazy because it is crazy.
Peter Tucci from the Daily Caller reports that Florida State University criminology professor Gary Kleck, "a political liberal" and "one-time supporter" of regulating guns has found that there is "no net effect on violence or crime rates" to such laws. Be that as it may, the agenda is the agenda and despite the facts, the agenda will now be imposed on the unwitting populace through "executive order". Communists around the world will be thrilled.
