There are now secession petitions to the White House for all 50 states. By 6:00AM EST on Wednesday, there were over 675,000 digital signatures. They are gaining speed every day on the 'We The People' online petition system...at the White House, for the White House. The same people that want out of the current system are handing over their private information...to the White House. Really? As Glenn Beck said on his radio program yesterday morning, "How dumb can you get?"
Aside from the "You're an idiot for giving the 'enemy' your private information" stuff, you are quite simply wasting your time. The issue has been settled. You can't do it. Forget it. In a letter to a New York screenwriter, Justice Scalia of the United States Supreme Court wrote, "If there was any constitutional issue resolved by the Civil War, it is that there is no right to secede." There it is. Back to the conspiracy stuff. Are you nuts? You don't go on a White House website and spill your guts if you're a secession fan!
Back to Beck, "This is exactly the kind of fuel the president will use to order measures to 'protect' the Republic. And he'll have the Department of Homeland Security at his disposal to enforce them." Ordinarily, that might sound a little crazy, but given that "President Obama signed his 141st executive order expanding the "partnership" between the Department of Homeland Security and local police, Beck said that when the federal government gets involved, local police almost always take a back seat. Moreover, reports of the Social Security Administration buying 174,000 hollow-point bullets suddenly become much more troubling."
A bunch of GOP Governors are saying "no thanks" to the petitions. Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam said, "I don't think that's a valid option for Tennessee. I don't think we'll be seceding." Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley and Texas Gov. Rick Perry both agree with Haslam. Does that mean Perry was kissing Tea Party booty back in 2009 when he refused to rule it out? Nah...never. So anyway, if you're comfortable with the DHS explanation of the bullet purchases and you don't give a hoot what your governor wants, by all means, sign away! Each state needs to reach 25,000 signatures (and several have). "If a petition gets enough support, White House staff will review it, ensure it's sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response." The official response will be a big, fat "NO!"
