Directed at President Obama: 'Psalms 109:8, "Let his days be few, and let another take his office." Is that threat enough to be investigated by the Secret Service? Apparently! A billboard in Victoria, Texas says, "Pray for Obama" with the words "Psalms 109:8" underneath, the verse itself isn't written on the billboard.
Milton Neitsch, Jr. had the billboard posted after a friend sent an email with the same saying. He has received death threats and angry calls and letters since his name has got out. Over a billboard! What's going to happen if Mitt Romney wins the election? Riots? Murders? This isn't the first time an "anti-Obama" billboard has caused controversy. Several cases of complaints, threats and vandalism of similar billboards have been reported. Is using a bible verse going too far?
Reverend Amy Danchik thinks so. She started a petition to have the billboard removed. She met with Neitsch and he admitted that he didn't mean for people to take it the wrong way. He also agreed to replace the billboard. Danchik said, "He shared with me a little about some of the threats that have come at his family, which is incredibly inappropriate, and in no way helpful and in no way how we're called to react when we disagree with somebody."
Why is the government wasting more taxpayer money "looking into" this billboard? In July, the Secret Service investigated people who put together a small display for a Utah Independence Day parade. Why? The limo driven had a sign on it that said "Huntsville Welcomes Obama's Farewell Tour?" and another that said "Ask about our assault gun plan! Call Eric Holder." Seriously. There's also the ridiculous investigation (and ongoing harassment) of Ted Nugent after he said, "If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year," and "We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November."
Nothing like a few death threats to change your perspective. Neitsch says he's going to replace the sign with a more peaceful phrase like "Vote for the American." That should go over well! Will the good Reverend be satisfied with a new "anti"-President Obama sign? After all, her main complaint was that the sign was "misusing holy scripture." Holy scripture misuse or birther use...the options are endless!
