Paul Ryan used to date a black woman. Do you care at all? If not, good for you! It absolutely does not matter what kind of women the vice presidential hopeful used to date, but recent blogs and internet discussions seem to be in quite the uproar over the guy's dating history. Why not focus on the fact that he supported anti-abortion legislation that used the term "legitimate rape" -- even though he recently said "rape is rape" in regards to the Todd Akin fiasco. Why not focus on the fact that his so-called budget plan would cast many elderly people into lives of destitute poverty and poor healthcare? Why not focus on the fact that he's a Randroid with no interest in the majority of Americans?
This is just another diversion from the issues that matter. The fact that Paul Ryan may have dated a black woman is not only completely unrelated to this election, it's nobody's business but his. The Root wrote an article about it, based off the words Ryan had said in 2005:
"I have a sister-in-law who's African American. My college sweetheart was black."
Okay, good and?
Comments about racism are flying wild about Ryan's past love, but does he really even come across as a racist? Look, the GOP is the party of bigotry; most people acknowledge and accept that. However, this doesn't mean that every single member of the party is some junior KKK member. Ryan has never given off the vibe that he's racist, so whether or not he is shouldn't suddenly become an issue. The issues with Ryan are many, and there are plenty of legitimate reasons not to vote for him and Mitt Romney, and whether or not he dated a black woman is certainly not one of them.
