Mitt Romney wants to cut federal aid for students, including the Pell Grant and other important funds that thousands of people genuinely need. What's his solution to the aftermath of this bad idea? Borrow money from your parents. Well, if that isn't one of the most ridiculous things ever proposed by the presidential hopeful, then what is? It's no surprise to see him pairing up with Paul Ryan -- who wants to completely dismantle Medicare, therefore possibly sentencing thousands of senior citizens to slow and painful deaths. So what is this idiot thinking?
Not everyone in the country has a rich dad that can just hand them factories to manage on their 18th birthdays. Not everyone has a series of maids and housekeepers to help their wives with the "tough job of motherhood" (insert eye roll there). So who the hell does he think he is by telling students in need to borrow money from mom and dad? It's obvious that his policies are targeted to benefit the rich while leaving the poor in a state of perpetual peasanthood. Many parents work hard to put food on the table and keep roofs over the heads of their families, including their adult children in these hard economic times. So to assume that they all can hash out $30,000 to $80,000 or more for school is just asinine.
But maybe that's the point. If you keep the poor uneducated then you can control how they vote. You can keep them from figuring out the facts behind the fluff when it comes to the ballot boxes, therefore gaining unfair advantages over those who are educated and vote democrat, right?
A new Obama campaign ad is lashing out at Mitt Romney's Scrooge McDuck-like approach to appealing to his voter base. "Get real," says a voice after Romney's comments are shown in a clip, repeating the sentiment that students should borrow money from their parents.
What has Obama done for education?
Well, for starters he doesn't expect students to squeeze the proverbial blood from a turnip. He came from a colorful background, which may seem privileged to some, but certainly not as privileged as Romney and his buddy Paul Ryan -- who used his father's Social Security to pay for college, even though he's totally against it now!
Obama has expanded the Pell Grant for lower income students. He also established the Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010. His broad policy enacted the largest reform for student financial aid in 40 years. These are just a few of the things the current POTUS has overseen. If that wasn't enough, his administration implemented a wide array of benefits for K-12 students as well!
So it seems like a no-brainer. Voting for Romney and his boy-wonder will only result in the further dumbing-down of America -- far worse than what Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and other far-right twits are doing. Voting for Obama will only be a success for people who value education.
That couldn't possibly be a bad thing unless you think education makes you a snob, right Rick Santorum?

So are you learning to NOT include links that we can use to challenge your claims Chelsea?
Think Progress....Imagine that! LOL!
Problem is with Chelsea's portrayal of Romney's statements is that he was talking about BUSINESS! NOT education.
"This kind of devisiveness, this attack of success, is very different than what we’ve seen in our country’s history. We’ve always encouraged young people: Take a shot, go for it, take a risk, get the education, borrow money if you have to from your parents, start a business. "
Even think progress doesn't propagandize as hard as Chelsea!
read much?
No challenge yet Mr. E? just a bunch of nonsense used to attack the writer instead of voicing an actual opinion.
..i'm not surprised.
That's all he really does. It's never really a surprise anymore, but more or less expected -- like an acne breakout.
Inaccurate as they may be.
"That's all he really does. It's never really a surprise anymore, but more or less expected -- like an acne breakout."
Ahaaa..Haa..Haaa!
must be something psychological...
It doesn't change the dishonesty of your reporting.
2. Nothing dishonest there, maybe your reading comprehension is a little off.
And there is nothing wrong with an offspring asking their parents to help finance any business enterprise, in fact many parents if they can afford to help will do just that like I did with my daughter when she started her now successful business six years ago. being a parent does not stop the moment that they become of age they are our children all our lives.
Propagandizing, I shouldn't have tried to give you the benefit of the doubt.
I've debunked three of your articles now Chelsea.
@Graham -- tell that to people without parents, or who are lower-middle class or poorer. Forget about them? Unsurprising.
In your postings you certainly try to twist the facts to give the impression that conservatives and Republicans in the worst possible light...Why don't you just admit it you are a surrogate for the Obama administration.
Just admit that you're bloated on that connie koolaid
You Obamaakins drank the koolaid a long time ago! LOL!
Don't worry Chelsea...We Connies will save you Progs from yourselves.
I'm sure you only find that meme amusing because he's black.
So whats wrong with a parent helping their child if they can or should we all say nope your not having it as all the children who don't have parents or who are poor cant get it.
I can tell you that I see an angry little progressive trying to justify a poor post that tried to muddy the water and who failed miserably.
And as for you jibe about me forgetting the poor, the ones who don't have family's or the lower middle classes I can tell you that if anyone who came forward to me with a good business proposal that had a fair chance at succeeding I would back them to the hilt as a silent partner. or is that wrong as well.
You really are losing the middle ground on this, if I was you I would stop digging that great big hole. Oh wait its not stopped you before has it so why stop now.
Try again -- I shouldn't have to "work" at a dialogue with another adult 0_o
what on earth were you trying to say here: (?)
So whats wrong with a parent helping their child if they can or should we all say nope your not having it as all the children who don't have parents or who are poor cant get it.
your post only showed my point about how important education is....
What is wrong is a politician pretending this is an option for everyone when they dismantle a public program that he's those who don't have that option in order to fund a tax cut to help those that already do.
I've debunked three of your articles now Chelsea.
I do not herein attempt to speak for, nor to defend, the author of this article nor the context of the article it's self. There is no need for me to do so, since the author's article needs no such defense and the author, herself, is more than capable than I, of debating your retort should she decide to do so.
However, I felt an overwhelming urge to answer your statement as a third party, having an interest in your assessed intellectual prowess, as to you believing that you are able to single handedly "Debunk" factual statements in an author's posted article.
Dan, IMO, you are an expressedly self imposed deaf, dumb and blind person when it comes to debating issues concerning either politics or religion. You have no capacity to see the opposit side of an issue, nor to understand another persons point of view. Therefore, for anyone to make an attempt to engage in an honest debate with you, would be an act of debating with an imaginery opponent. You can not grasp the fact that a debate is two or more sides being presented and defended on a given issue, for you, it is your opinion and your opinion only that matters. It seems to be beyond your personal comprehension to realize that it takes more than just your opinion to make a point in fact. You appear not to be sensitive nor agreeable to the fact that each individual's opinion is partially accurate to some degree. As such, it requires all opinions and presented documented facts combined, to make a reasonable fact as to the issue of debate.
Separate opinions, even those backed up with documented facts, are only partial answers to an equation, by themselves, such presented information does not make an entire truth in summation. One side of an issue demands more evidence, additional opinions and supportive documentation to become nearer to the whole truth.
It is truly sad that you can not understand that cooperation is a virtual necessity in an honest debate between opponents who are attempting to find the truth of the question. Like most people here on GN, especially ideological conservative extremist, you are unable to cooperate and only able to cast aspersions upon and attempt to denigrate those with a different opoinion on a given subject.
Chelsea has no interest in the "truth", similarly neither do you.
"Dan, IMO,"
Well Scott, It's only your opinion and it is only important to you!
Scott,
You post so many words but say so little.
"I've debunked three of your articles now Chelsea."
Yes Scott, that's right I have!
How easy it is to 'be right all the time if you never have to prove anything.
I would have to say to progressives it's not possible debunk progressive lies and dishonesty no matter the facts..
A natural state of mind for those of the progressive persuasion.
Like I said it's all you got.
Well, if that isn't one of the most ridiculous things ever proposed by the presidential hopeful
When you wrote this statement into your article, you failed to take into account that Mitt Romney has put aside $100,000,000.00 in a savings account for his children. I'm sure he believes that all families can afford to do the same. Because those are the only types of families he has ever associated with throughout his life.
Omg...what's he expect me to do??? I plan on going back to school now that my sons 11mths old & I want to be sure I have a career just in case husband & I would split. I want to be sure I can take care of my son on my own.
Where does he expect people such as me that their parents are dead to borrow 80k from??? Smh, clearly he forgot about the people who have lost their parents!!!
What an idiot!!!!
This is the most rediculous thing I've ever heard. Some parents want their kids to NOT borrow $ from them so they can learn to work for everything, NOT get it all handed to them in a silver spoon..
I'm just speechless & angry at this reject!!
He is leaving his children some money after he dies, but he wants them to "find their own way".
Since Romney feels this way, how about HIM giving ever child who's parents cannot afford it, or children who do not have parents, thousands of dollars to go to school!
herpderp
tracie......Heaven You all give?
what about YOU?
I give monthly to the Snohomish Co. chapter of the united Way, to Tree House, a foster child supportive organization located in Seattle, At work we have an employee community to which I donate, to the second amendment foundation and to the Political reform organization GOOOH. Besides those monthly donations at my work we have right now books and backpacks campaign, to collect school supplies for less affluent children to be able to start the new school year properly equipped.
I have spent several years as an advocate for our employees community fund informing my co-workers and encouraging them to maximize their giving to their favorite charities by giving through our employee community fund. They can give to almost any charity they choose and we pick up any of the processing fees so more of their giving get to where it is needed.
AS I'm sure we all do I receive requests from various organizations for help and from time to time I will respond especially to the Red Cross.
I have, I give...And I'm not the one doing the bitchin.
Not everyone can afford to donate, but I have right to vote, so yes I have the right to btich! ;-)
Maybe you can tell me why you only respond to Chelsae's posts?
You buddies? an alter?
I do follow her articles because o the controversy she seems to start ALL over the net. Plus, chelsea covers what interests me, such as, crimes like missing women & kids, hate crimes etc..
I may not necesarrily agree with her, but she does have some talent at writing which peaks my curiousity.
Who else would you like me to reply to?? And, why do you feel the need to ask me so many questions?
Chelsea writes about my interests..that's it I promise lol
Tracie -- you don't have to explain yourself to Dan -- he's one of this site's MANY trolls and he makes it a hobby out of harassing people here, in particular the women. He's done it as long as I've been here and probably longer; he's just a sad and hateful LITTLE man with some major complexes. Ignore him.
trying to bring others down might make Dan feel whatever he gets out of it, but it will never lead to actual happiness.
Heaven, I know so many people like that. The ones that only put others down to feel better. I truly despise people like that. Had no idea he was a troll though lol...I've noticed quite a few people get off on bashing people pretty hard.
I have to be honest, I love how people refer chelsea as a reporter lol ... I don't know why it makes me laugh. It might be because chelsea gets so irritated & than she lashes back but she somehow manages to politely put them down. Have to give her props because she's gotten pretty good at it lol..
All I could say to her was "herp derp?"
When confronted by the reality that most people have severe restrictions on how they can spend, they then resort to their base position of not really giving a shit.
Are there really so many Americans that believe this guy that there is a question about this election ... that just seems weird to me.
Unlike Romney, most families cannot simply right a check and use their political connections to get their kids into BYU and Harvard.
In addition to his suggesting that students simply tap their rich parents for bucks to cover college, Romney also said that we all deserve the best education "we can afford." So he had decided that if you aren't born rich you don't deserve a good education. He has decided that you get special privileges from being born rich. He decided that if you are rich you get to tell everyone else what to do.
That isn't the American dream. That's a plutocracy.
Which is why he is hiding his tax returns. Because contrary to the fantasy lie the Republicans have created, the super-rich do not create jobs. They instead use all the tax loopholes they put into the tax code to make money on after-market trading of paper that don't create one job. They then hide their riches from taxation by putting it overseas in Cayman Island tax havens, front corporations in Bermuda, and Swiss bank accounts.
Romney and Ryan show that they disdain the middle class, which is why they propose to raise taxes on the middle class to pay for even more tax breaks for the super-rich.
Mitt Romney clearly said two things (1) that children should expect their parents to stake them to a business enterprise and (2) that children should get the best education that their parents can afford to provide them with.
When anyone examines and equates those two declarations with an honest and open mind, must find that by Mitt Romney making those two statements, he can only be interpeted to mean that parents are expected to be wealthy enough to do such things for their children. A scenario which insinuates that he is undoubtedly unaware, that he is excluding 99% of all American parents. If he was mentally aware of the fact that 99% of Americans are not in his financial bracket and still made those statements, then he is one of the most insensitively asinine class bigots in America today.
Thus one must agree with the fact that Mitt Romney has no understanding nor perception of how the non wealthy within the American society struggle just to keep a roof over their families head, pay the bills and put food on the table. At the very least, one must agree that Mitt Romney certainly has no conception of the fact that there are people who by their station in life, must completely depend on the generousity of the American tax payers via government assistance programs, to provide them and their families with their daily bread.
It would seem logical that anyone who does not believe that Mitt Romney is so wealthy that he is incapable of identifying with people who are not in his financial realm, must themselves be in the 1% of the super wealthy Americans as well. Anyone who is not among the 1% er's, yet, continues to overlook, ignore and disavow Romney's ingrained faults while attempting to justify his lack in ethical statue and moral values, as well as refusing to see his insensitivity to those far less fortunate than he, I must ask this one question, Why ???
For me, when anyone supports a political candidate for elected office is a true American, heart and soul. To those Americans, I resoundingly say, bravo, that's the American way. But, when a person denys or attempts to coverup their candidate's obvious character faults and integrity shortcomings, whether he/she is the best candidate or not, that is being abjectly dishonest, both with themselves and to those they are conversing with.
To:
Dan who always demands links and all others of concern, don't bother to ask for a weblink, these are my personal opinions, take them as they are or reject them as you wish, either way, it want change what I believe.
The borrow from your parents quote comes from a speech a few weeks ago. It's another example of Romney's tin ear. He has a hard time relating to the lives of ordinary people. There's no doubt that he was a success in business, unlike GW Bush who didn't do well. It doesn't mean he has a clue to the way most people think.
This seems to be a lost issue, for public debate, in the current Presidential campaign--and it is surprising, given the controversy over the Occupy Wall Street movement.
The debt incurred by a student, after graduation, does nothing but to put an additional burden on the economic solvency of that student, for the foreseeable future.
The unpaid balance also, of course, has implications for the extra burden it imposes on the Lender....given the possibility of increased default or slowed payment.
With high unemployment not going down, perhaps, anytime soon; and with entry-level jobs offering meager remuneration, the opportunity to pay down the high cost of tuition is a primary problem--and one that may be lost, as a priority, behind the debates for Taxes, Medicare, and Unemployment.
