A Christian Texas teen and Congresswoman Kay Granger worked together to get a 12-foot cross beautifully displayed across from the White House in Lafayette Park. Why is the 19-year-old Junior Garcia so adamant about displaying the cross in front of the White House? He feels called to be a missionary by holding a prayer meeting just outside the "prominent location" of the White House.
Garcia had set his mind and heart to accomplish this goal and with the help of Republican Congresswoman Granger, he accomplished it. Who ever said that teens could not accomplish much in the world?
Granger commented about the intense tenacity of Garcia's, she said, "I am proud of Junior and impressed with his commitment to this journey."
The ambitious Texas teen is carrying the burden of the cross on his back from his home state to Washington D.C. This is no small feat. A representative for Garcia's home church, Oasis Church International, stated, "His passion and faith are inspiring. I am glad he will have the opportunity to have this prayer service in such a prominent location."
Lafayette Park sits across from the White House, and it has long been known for many "demonstrations, protests, and rallies." However, Garcia and his friends intend to bring peace and harmony to the park.
Is there any other reason that Garcia has chosen the White House for his prayer meeting? Yes. The Oasis representative explained that Garcia and friends are working diligently to raise money for a missionary to Mexico to be able to buy a car. Garcia is the missionary's substitute!
Many people are offering encouragement and support of the Texas teen and his friends via the Oasis Church's Facebook page. Be sure and offer your own words of encouragement. May they travel safely and be given all the strength and comfort that they need as they travel the long journey to D.C.
Garcia was asked what motivated him to take on such a monumental task to hold a prayer meeting at the White House. He stated, "It was just time to get rid of worldly desires and focus on Him. I remember looking up to heaven saying, 'I'm yours.' That day, I decided to take up my cross. And I felt so strong in my heart. And I felt Him tell me where to go and how to go. And that's where we're going - Washington, D.C."
Garcia's story is inspiration. Set your mind to something and see it through no matter the cost. Carry your cross.
