Politicians have been spreading political lies with fake photographs since the days of Lincoln, long before Photoshop and all the other high-tech image manipulation tools available to computer users today. Doctored photos of Lincoln, Stalin, Mussolini, Hitler and even Oprah have appeared throughout the years.
Researchers at the Library of Congress determined that a famous picture of Ulysses S. Grant from the Civil War was a fake. The image is actually a compilation of three separate photos: the head is actually from a portrait of Grant, the horse and body are Major General Alexander McCook and the background is Confederate prisoners captured during battle in Fisher's Hill, Virginia.
The company FourAndSix put together a history of fake photos. You will notice that the majority of them are political photos. Hitler and Stalin both airbrushed out people they were no longer friendly with. Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King airbrushed King George VI out of a picture with Queen Elizabeth and used it as a campaign poster.
All this image manipulation was done in pre-computer days. If technology is truly advancing, why couldn't "they" create a better quality fake birth certificate for President Obama? If his birth certificate is really a fake, shouldn't it be of such extreme high quality that it would take several researchers at the Library of Congress to determine its origin?
It's kind of depressing to think that you can't even trust that old photos printed in history books are authentic. The political lies will keep coming though, believe it or not.

ID checks will not stop the illegal voters, because they will come prepared with phony ID and look the part of a conservative voter.
The honest voter who has a Hispanic accent, is poorly dressed or has dark skin, will be stopped immediately, and will often be denied their right to vote.
I like the way the little guy appears to be so enthusiastic in his waving and smile, makes one feel happy.
The media has become (and possably mostly always has been) nothing more than one aspect of the entertainment business. It BARELY manages to get the correct ages, and names of the people involved, much less any basic facts as to what transpired, or is transpiring, I am so very sad to say. The public/society at large is ill served by the media. The media is a vehicle of mis information, and disinformation used to confuse, and manipulate us. Stop buying it, and or buying into it. I've reduced, overtime, for various reasons one news source after another, and after realizing even my local newspaper gets things so wrong,...why spend another dime, or any of my time on any of these sources. Lots of people are aware that the situation with the media sources are bad, but I've recently come to understand just how bad they truly are. They are completely useless to my live, completely irrelevent to reality. They do not educate, nor inform. I wish it were otherwise, but I'm thankful to fond out just how irrelevent the media really is. Now I can save my money, and my time but just not watching them, nor reading them ever again.
Okay, you have been free with your advise to the Gather membership as to where not to get our news. Now would it be asking to much of you to go the next step and let the membership have your expert advise as to from what source we should get our news. This added tidbit is needed and is an essential part of our welbeing, inasmuch, as to be a Gather "News" member, means we are interested in current news stories and political issues.
