Are there Communists in the White House? U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Florida recently spoke at a town hall and was asked by a constituent about how many Marxists were in the Democratic Party. West responded by saying, "I believe there's about 78 to 81 members of the Democratic Party that are members of the Communist Party." A commentary at CNN asks the question, "Where is the Outrage?"
The indignant article goes on to say that "Communists, of course, murdered more than 100 million people in the past century, if you add up the rough total of butchery by Vladimir Lenin (Soviet Union), Joseph Stalin (Soviet Union), Mao Zedong (China) and Pol Pot (Cambodia)."
The article speculates that West's number was based on the number of democrats in the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), a far left caucus within the House Democratic Caucus.
Their core principles are:
1. Fighting for economic justice and security for all;
2. Protecting and preserving our civil rights and civil liberties;
3. Promoting global peace and security; and
4. Advancing environmental protection and energy independence
Compare these principles to the principles of the Communist Party USA.
What is "Communism"?
The Communist Party USA ultimately wants global revolution and the worldwide destruction of Capitalism, which "exploits and oppresses," but until they "win enough support to change the system, communists call for radical reforms under capitalism," by replacing it with socialism.
In order to accomplish this, they "work in coalition with the labor movement, the peace movement, the student movement, organizations fighting for equality and social justice, the environmental movement, immigrants rights groups and the health care for all campaign." They call for "nationalization of the banks, railroads, and industries like steel and auto. Everyone who wants to work should be guaranteed a job or get unemployment payments until she/he can find a job. We say put the unemployed to work at union wages on massive public works programs to rebuild our cities, provide affordable housing for the homeless, build mass transit, and clean up the environment!"
How do members of the CPC feel about capitalism? Are there Communists in the White House? Some of President Obama's "Czars" have proven communist ties, such as Van Jones (former Green Jobs Czar), Ed Montgomery, Carol Brower, and Gary Samor.
Many of the communist goals are also reflected in the anti-capitialist Occupy Movement, which has been heavily endorsed by many in Academia, the mainstream media and government officials, including President Obama and Nancy Pelosi.
It is easy to see why conservatives view the left as leaning toward Socialism. The Socialists and the Communists not only endorse the OWS movement, they take an active role in it, as well as in the Trayvon Martin Protests.
The ways to get to Socialism/Communism are not overt, but oftentimes a "back door" approach. For example, the "Left Forum" used to be called the "Socialist Scholars Conference." It meets every year and is teeming with radical leftists, mostly professors in universities. It has such panels as "A United Front Against the Right," "Against Racism and White Privilege," "Mobilizing American Youth in the Classroom, at the Workplace, in the Community in an Era of Demoralization and Demobilization." The Left Forum met last month. The theme: "Occupy the System: Confronting Global Capitalism."
Speaking of the back door, there are many organizations that have communist ties, but one would never know it. One Example is the National Lawyers Guild, which represents Occupy protesters and others.
Is Alan West Off the Mark?
The question is... does endorsement by the Communist Party USA mean one is a Communist? What if one contributes to or is featured in Communist writings, promotes communist goals, or has clear associations with the Communist party? Take a look at the CPC...just the co-chairs...
In August 2006, the Communist Party USA welcomed Keith Maurice Ellisons', co-chair of the CPC, probable election to Congress. At one point, Ellison met with leftist activists across the U.S.A. raided by the FBI (they were looking for links to foreign terrorist organizations) and reached out to other CPC members on their behalf.
The other co-chair, Raul M.Grijalva, former community organizer, (as described by the Democratic Socialists of America member Peter Dreier), has written for and has been featured in several communist papers. For example, he wrote an anti-NAFTA piece in the Communist Party's "People's Weekly World." He was a member of MEChA, the infamous Chicano separatist group known for its love of Cuba and its Marxist values.
Are there other connections? Yes, way too many to list, but some can be found here. So, is it such a stretch to say that despite the democrat label, many government representatives are at the very least, communist sympathizers? It is amazing that there would be outrage over this, as there are clear links.
The CNN article continues to say that to equate liberals in Congress to Communists is like comparing conservatives to fascists. If a Republican had writings featured in Nazi magazines, would that make him or her a "Nazi"? No, but their role sure would be scrutinized, and chances are, they would not be elected!
