How embarrassing! Michelle Obama, Sasha, and Malia are on vacation, again. Last Presidents' Day, her husband said, "If you're a family trying to cut back, you might skip going out to dinner, or you might put off a vacation," right before she and her daughters jetted off to Vail, Colorado. This year, it's ritzy Aspen, the most expensive town in the U.S., skiing on the stars' fave slopes. Is everyone laughing or shocked at the audacity of America's luxury-loving First Lady? A UK headline reads: "Well it has been a whole month! Just weeks after 17-day Hawaii vacation Michelle hits the slopes with daughters on Aspen ski trip."
Here at home, the outrage over the constant and expensive trips continues to be ignored by the First Family. Each time they go on a vacation—and this is number 16—the press goes bonkers. It's like The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral! Ticked off Americans get online, blogging, making videos, and sounding off on the arrogance of the First Family and their total disregard for their use of taxpayer money. Then, the Obama supporters come out, tempers flaring and waving the "But Bush..." flag.
The facts are that Obama and/or family have taken 16 vacations since taking office. Bush had 30 visits to his Crawford, Texas, ranch in 220 days according to CBS reporter Mark Knoller last August. Yes, it was much cheaper to go to the ranch. Bush is gone, thankfully. Obama is not. Contrary to the "economic upswing" (huh?), taking a $4 million trip to Hawaii paid for by taxpayer's is rubbish. The article points out there are no public appearances scheduled for the First Lady during this trip.
At least they're staying with friends. The Daily Caller writes, "The Crown family is from Chicago. Paula Crown is a member of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. Federal Election Commission records show that both of the Crowns are big Democratic donors, with the exception of several isolated donations to Republican candidates such as Sen. Mark Kirk."
So many Americans are struggling today. Gas prices are soaring, higher than they've ever been this time of year. Of course, the First Family needs time off, and it's good for any mother like Michelle Obama to take her daughters on an "all girls" vacation now and then. However, it seems like there's a huge disconnect between the First Family and the American citizens, like a detachment of the day-to-day realities facing the people. Not a huge surprise, it's that type of aloofness by the elites in government that spawned the Occupy Movement and the Tea Party. When Obama is re-elected in the fall, hopeful he will change some of his behaviors that make other countries view Americans as weak and laughable. It's an embarrassing place to be for such a great republic. It's not making a big deal about nothing, these extravagant vacations make the country look bad.
