Romney's attempt at a $10,000 bet with Rick Perry made headlines. However, that is rather insignificant considering all the blatant GOP lies during last night's debate.
Entry level janitors make twice as much as entry level teachers (Gingrich)
Wrong. Any entry-level janitor and an entry-level teacher may earn very close to the same starting wage. However, in most cases, a janitor's salary is lower than a teacher's salary.
An entry-level janitor will generally earn less than $20,000 per year while a teacher's aide in Iowa City, IA earns a median salary of just under $20,000. Teachers with at least two years of experience then go on to earn median salaries of around $50,000 per year.
Obama is the only President to ever cut Medicare (Romney)
George H. W. Bush cut Medicare payments to hospitals and care facilities in the 1990 budget. And Bill Clinton also cut Medicare payments in his 1997 balanced budget. Obama's plan increases payments to primary care providers and shrinks subsidies to private insurance companies. Obama's plan cuts Medicare by a mere six percent, in contrast to the 12 percent cut made by President Clinton and Newt Gingrich's Congress.
The word "Palestinian" is an invented word first used in 1977 (Gingrich)
Gingrich caused a big stir in the Middle East with his comments on Palestine and Israel. Palestine is referenced in the bible at least four times. The history of Palestine and Israel is a lengthy one. Palestine did not always mean the same thing nor were the residents of Palestine or Israel all the same as they are now. World War I and World War II as well as the Roman Empire ALL played a part in the state of affairs that now exist. Gingrich's comments were meant to get him some media attention but could they have threatened the safety of Americans?
We have the highest corporate tax rate in the world. (Romney)
Our corporate tax rate is second to Japan for being the highest in the world.
And then, don't forget, Michelle Bachmann making references to Herman Cain and the infamous "999" plan. She even mentioned his name in response to the question about the "one person on this stage that you've learned something from!" Michelle, Herman was not on the stage, sweetheart. What Bachmann said was not a lie, but it calls into question her judgement. Other than her Cain references, Michelle Bachmann was the most FACTUAL candidate speaking in last night's debate.
