The Udall Amendment failed to gain support in the Senate yesterday -- an amendment which would have prevented the military from knocking on your door and detaining you indefinitely if you're labeled a potential terrorist threat. The National Defense Authorization Act permits the military to police the streets, arresting people for simply looking suspicious.
If President Obama does not stand by his word to veto this frightening bill, the United States will officially become a fascist police state. This is not a joke, folks. It is real. Yet, only two Republicans voted against the Udall Amendment, which would have removed that ability. Rand Paul (R-KY), said, "It's not enough just to be alleged to be a terrorist," That's part of what due process is -- deciding, are you a terrorist? I think it's important that we not allow U.S. citizens to be taken."
This bill would stop normal FBI investigations into possible terrorism, and simply allow the military to swoop in, take them, send them to Guantanamo and hold them indefinitely, including Americans. If you're under suspicion for any reason, whether you're a kid or an adult, whether you're a foreigner or American, whether you're on American soil or foreign soil, the American military will be authorized by our government to pick you up.
Does this remind you of anything? Think "1984."
Is this the kind of future we want our children to grow up in? Is this the kind of fear we want to be held to? This is a flat-out war against everyday Americans, an attempt to strip the last, shredded rags of freedom from our lives. Ever since 9/11 happened, the United States government has chipped away at our civil rights, and now it's come to this, because most people are too complacent or fearful to stand up and speak against it.
The time is now to hold President Obama accountable for this important piece of legislation. He can not allow this to happen. If you value your freedom, do what you can to spread the word, whether it's via email, a phone call, Twitter, Facebook. Let your friends and family, and the president know this bill must be vetoed.

Obama has vowed to veto it, but because the Senate has a REpublican majority, they can easily override that veto if they want. And they probably will. Your best bet is to contact your senator and congressman to express outrage at this blatant violation of the Constitution.
