The US credit rating just experienced a "Tea Party downgrade."
That's the message Obama administration officials are putting out this week, in a response to the downgrade in the United States' credit rating from AAA to AA+.
It's exactly the right move. For too long the Republican party has managed to run over public debate by staying perfectly on message—whether or not that message was truthful.
By branding the current economic crisis the Tea Party Downgrade, the Democrats let the public know exactly who's to blame for their economic troubles. Regardless what any of them say, the Tea Party Republicans in Congress exist solely to vote against Democratic initiatives and ideas. They signed their responsibilities away to Grover Norquist, and refused to compromise one iota in the debt ceiling negotiations, demanding all of their requirements be met while behaving like stubborn children anytime the idea of a revenue increase came up.
In fact, they manufactured the debt ceiling crisis out of thin air by
suddenly pretending to care about the debt ceiling to begin with. Republicans were happy to raise the debt ceiling dozens of times under earlier Presidents, but now that Obama is in office, they've changed their tune.
When David Axelrod called the credit downgrade a Tea Party downgrade on Face the Nation yesterday, he was absolutely correct. This is a Tea Party downgrade, in more ways than one. The Tea Party's economic know-nothings caused a downgrade in both our credit rating and our reputation overseas. This weekend's editorials have been nothing but excoriations from European and Asian officials over the pathetic behavior by those calling themselves the Tea Party.
"Tea Party Downgrade" indeed. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Or do you think, just maybe, Obama's trillions in debt, driving the country into chaos with inept executive skills, a bottomless stock market, and his dictatorial passing of laws that've led to the worst economy America has seen since The Great Depression might have more direct correlation to a credit downgrade than some mere 20% of the population Tea Party?
Use your head. That's like saying Equifax won't improve your credit rating so you can buy a new house because you already own five homes you can't afford and your children misbehave.
Notice how we were on the road to recovery before they started their mission of "Obama must FAIL"
You think S&P might know more about their own decision than you do?
Listen to the real sources as much as you listen to Soros propaganda and we'll all be in a better place. This is nonsense and you should be ashamed for falling for it and for contributing to it.
And yes, the crash happened under Bush W - but he didn't actually DO it, if anybody DID it, it's ironically S&P who caused a bubble by giving crap bank products AAA ratings. So I blame Reagan for his Deregulation Mantra (the great depression is long over) that set banks on this path of doom.
"In this country Congress and the administration are jointly responsible for the conduct of fiscal policy. In lowering the rating one notch to AA-plus what we actually are saying is there's a deterioration in the U.S.'s credit standing relative to AAA."
"When we made the modifications after a conversation with the treasury it doesn't change the fact that even with the agreement of Congress and the administration, the underlying debt burden of the U.S. government is rising and will continue to rise most likely over the next decade."
Yes, ending the failed Bush W taxes on the rich are reasonable to raise revenue. Bush W had to borrow money from the get-go for those. The first rebate checks were from borrowed money and it never got better.
We can directly blame the tea party for us not being downgraded to AA instead of AA+...thanks tea party.
Just a few months ago Obama submitted a budget that had zero cuts and trillions in extra spending....are you telling us that he suddenly had a change of heart is now Obama the budget cutter...get real.
We've had to listen to you guys for the past year tell us that we don't have a debt problem.....seems you also said the same thing about Fannie and Freddie...well what say you now.....I see we don't see much of the spouting about tax increases since everyone knows that it wouldn't make even a small dent in our huge debt.
This is a stupidity tax. The Republicans can call up Grover Norquist and let him know that they broke their pledge about not raising taxes. The drop in the market will remove wealth from the economy than any tax hike would have. Thanks Tea Party.
You're just another liberal who cannot admit there is a debt problem....well don't worry us conservatives are going to fix it....we can't promise you that it won't be painful, making hard choices always are but it will put us back on track...after 4 1/2 of dem control we are now nearly bankrupt...thanks Obama, Pelosi and Reid.
And for the most part, the reason you can't get fid of your blinders is because you're too lost in pervertland. You're perverted and pathetic. Death should become you.
I was referring to the ones throwing the blame all on the Tea Party. But that doesn't meant I put any trust in the Tea Party. Historically when other parties form, like the Independents, they are just doing it to sway votes away from one party to the other. But, besides that, I don't see that it matters anyway. History reveals a pattern of this government continously headed in the direction of a One World Government, which reveals evidence that voting doesn't mean anything anyway, because they are on an Agenda. Every president we have had since before FDR has been on that Agenda. They have actually openly spoke about it, using words and phrases that tend to go over peoples' heads. The "Globalization" they often refer to is the same as what Daniel Warburg referred to when he spoke of Globalization and spoke in opposition to nationalization, way back in the 20's. Every president we have had since then has been on that Agenda, following the directions laid out by Warburg.
I don't think the Tea Party is anything more than another diversion.
Just a Thought -
does anyone wonder where all this money went? Does anyone know?
"It amazes me the ease at which you will blame everything on the other party as if your party is pure as undriven snow."
I don't belong to either party. As much as I'm sure you all think it, I'm not a democrat. I can't stand Obama.
I just can't stand conservatives even more.
Sure fooled me. Uhh Uhmm!
The Dems were not a lock step group. The Blue Dog Dems were usually voting with the Republicans.
Great article libramoon. My "conspiracy theories" have been proven correct.
Thanks for posting the link.
Both parties are at fault in allowing our debt to get so out of control, us conservatives do not like this last compromise since like other bills in the past it has no real spending cuts in it and only relys on future reductions in out years that have to be approved by a new congress each year...it never happens.
Politicians greatest power is the ability to spend money, pick winners and losers this is what gives them their clout and attracts the lobbyists....take away their money and you take away a big chunk of their influence.
