Another day, another disaster for Michele Bachmann. The ultra-conservative Congresswoman is under fire by none other than legendary rocker Tom Petty, who isn't thrilled that Bachmann has been using his song "American Girl" at her campaign events.
It's standard practice for Presidential candidates to appropriate a patriotic song to use when they appear at campaign events, but in true Michele Bachmann fashion she (and her campaign) took the easy way out and didn't think to get Petty's permission to use his song.
Now Tom Petty has sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Bachmann campaign, demanding that her campaign never again use any of his music.
Hilary Clinton used "American Girl" during her campaign with no protests from Petty. Sounds like Petty doesn't want his music used to advance (even in a slight way) a conservative candidate.
It's entirely unsurprising that Michele Bachmann's campaign didn't bother to get permission to use Petty's music. The Congresswoman was probably too busy pandering to her gullible fans in Ohio to bother with silly things like making sure her campaign wasn't stealing Petty's music.

She's getting lots of free publicity! The rabid left is getting sucked right into it!
I just love watching all the leftists get their undies in a bunch over Palin and Bachmann. The sheer obsession just gets me.
At the health club, lefties stop exercising and get off their machines and get closer to the TV when Palin or Bachmann come on. Like bugs to a light bulb.
I love talking with my old friends I call The Marx Brothers(not because they are funny), you can see their blood pressure rise 20 points just by mentioning Bachmann's name. Can you feel the hate?
It's fun to watch the left obsess over them.
Really? And on what planet is that? When I go to the gym, I'm too busy working out to watch TV.

Winston, first you're pretending that you have friends, and then you're extrapolating what you think other people are feeling. That's just sad.
As has been the situation with Sarah Palin, nothing Bachmann says or does, no matter how far out, how redicules, how insane, how untrue or how embarrassing, such flaws in character will have absolutely no effect on those who love and idolize her.
Again, as with Sarah Palin, Bachmann speaks the language of a small but boisterous far right segment of the Republican Party. The only real difference between the two women are their religious beliefs. Palin adheres to the Penecostal Holliness Church which teaches the casting out the devil from the body and protecting a believer from evil spirits with biblical and spitiual incantations spoken by a minister. Whereas, Bachmann is a believer in an extremist movement of the Evangelical Teachings and Religion which believes in strict creationism of the world and all life thereon.
Nuts or not, Michele Bachmann is for real with her supporters.
What, of musis to pirate, I'm sure he'll appreciate it if you would.
From all the blow, LSD, pot, uppers and downers that Petty use to do...who cares what he thinks? Seriously...maybe he should keep to making good music.

August, no he doesnt. He sold the rights to the music company...he cant tell anyone not to do anything with it.

And you laugh at Hollywood weighing in on politics? I hope you're not a Ronald Reagan fan.
No, I won't back down.
You can drag me up to the gates of hell
But I won't back down.
Obama should use that one. I think I'll take a drive and crank up Petty this afternoon. I'll turn up the volume on "Runnin' Down a Dream," and jam out and laugh at everyone who disagrees with me.
Yeah.
Duuude. Pass the munchies, man.
I like to imagine that scenario happening. It makes me giggle.
