Michele Bachmann has announced her upcoming 2012 presidential bid, but that isn't what has people talking right now. Hey, it's no news that she's a 'flake,' but come on. Even this is a little too much to take from a potential leader of the free world. So obviously, Michele Bachmann didn't literally mean to compare herself to John Wayne Gacy, but that's not the point.
She did indeed make a major myth faux pas when she returned to her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa -- the hometown of notorious serial killer, John Wayne Gacy. When she was there she was sure to lay on the 'hometown honey,' by mentioning her roots there over a dozen times during her speech. But one thing she said is not only hilarious, but possibly damaging to her desired presidential bid. In an interview for Fox News she said:
"Well what I want them to know is just like John Wayne is from Waterloo, Iowa. That's the kind of spirit I have too."
Obviously, Michele Bachmann didn't really mean she has the same spirit as John Wayne Gacy. She obviously meant John Wayne, the legendary western film actor. However, John Wayne was not from Waterloo. He was from a couple hundred miles away from there, actually. It was John Wayne Gacy who was from Waterloo, where he lured young boys and young men to his home for sexual torture and murder.
So hey, who wants Michele Bachmann for president? Maybe she and Sarah Palin can form a league of airhead candidates and run together.

Oh. I see you'd beaten me to it, Winston. ;)
Certainly, she gets lot of coverage, 'straight up'.
But it looks like there is the added benefit of being seen taking the pounding, day in & day out. Mainly cause they don't like the part of her hair.
"She must be my kind of politician."

This is from your own link:
"There's only three things he mentions in a sentence -- a noun, a verb, and 9/11." --Joe Biden, on Rudy Giuliani
"If your kitchen table is like mine, you sit there at night before you put the kids to bed and you talk about what you need. You talk about how much you are worried about being able to pay the bills. Ladies and gentlemen, that is not a worry John McCain has to worry about. It's a pretty hard experience. He'll have to figure out which of the seven kitchen tables to sit at." --Joe Biden on McCains SEVEN Houses/condos.
I welcome a debate between her and our duly elected 44th President, Mr. Obama.
She made a surprisingly good showing in that GOP debate recently.
Pres. Obama is a very smart guy. Not as good in free-wheeling exchange as he is reading prepared material off multiple teleprompters.
I predict that Mr. Obama fails to accommodate Ms. Bachmann in debate, any time soon, and when he can no longer avoid it, his performance highlights her skill.
She looks to me like she could be part-Mandan. Pres. Jefferson had an acute interest in her possible ancestors ... for reasons less than fully clear.
Although, of course, those putative 14th C Viking immigrants were neither documented, nor paying taxes.
Genealogists have done wonders with high-profile public figures. Maybe we should encourage them to have a go at Michelle? ;-)
Ted, when it comes to Michele Bachmann the bar has been lowered. If she doesn't say something flaky then it's considered a good showing.
I want her to start discussing the myriad of issues facing the American people including the millions of uninsured Americans who use their local hospital emergency room as their primary physicians office.
I'd also like to hear how she would deal with the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars.
I want a concrete answer from Mrs. Bachmann as to how she would jump-start the economy.
What I don't want is more soundbites saying "let's make President Obama a one term President."
"Gacy was born in Chicago, Illinois. lol morons"
From Wikipedia entry, John Wayne Gacy:
"John Wayne Gacy was born on March 17, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois..."
-- ps -- please research republican sex scandals vs democrat. You might throw up in your mouth a little.. Might want to do that while you read up a bit on john wayne gacy -- he was a sick fella.
John Wayn Gacy was born in Chicago -- but he lived in Waterloo. John Wayne was neither born or ever resided in waterloo - - Michele Bachmann failed. Furthermore, John Wayne wasn't even born "john wayne" --
The point of the matter is simple:
She obviously has NO fact checkers and no desire to fact-check her own thoughts herself. Surely the people of IA aren't interested in voting for someone who makes such far-out, false statements.
And John Wayne never lived in Waterloo...does that make you a bigger moron?
The right seems to think the media picks on people like Bachmann and Palin because they are conservatives. The media and public pick on them because they are self-righteous idiots! You never see this kind of ridicule heaped on Romney or Huckabee or Huntsman. It's because they aren't idiots!
