Sarah Palin may run for president from Arizona. Palin came out guns a-blazing since being named John McCain’s running mate in 2008. She resigned as governor of Alaska; wrote a book about the campaign trail; and supported several candidates in the 2010 congressional race.
Now Sarah Palin for president is close to becoming a reality. Many people have asked her about her intentions on running for president in 2012. On Oprah (2009) Palin said, it was “not on my radar screen.” Two years later, Internet rumors are putting Palin’s presidential campaign headquarters in Arizona.
According to Ben Smith’s blog, Sarah Palin is looking at Arizona as her national campaign headquarters for president for several reasons. One - Scottsdale, AZ will keep her close to her daughter Bristol, who recently bought a house in Maricopa. Two - Alaska is a strange cultural realm for most Americans.
Sarah Palin is a powerful political figure. After McCainÂ’s failed presidential run, Palin came to Arizona to help McCain keep his senate seat in 2010. At the same time, she puts political crosshairs on the congressional seats that Republicans wanted to control. One of those seats belonged to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
Will Sarah PalinÂ’s presidential campaign headquarters come to Arizona? So far PalinÂ’s camp isnÂ’t confirming anything. Arizona may be a more convenient locale to run a national campaign than Alaska. But Palin should consider the two presidential candidates who have run from Arizona lost. Perhaps Americans are ready to embrace something new.

But she is like some of us.
Alaska is awesome, of course. One day it will probably be the dominant state in the Union.
You have an interesting perspective. I don't think Loughner was influenced by Palin. He just seems to be a disturbed individual. Thanks for sharing your blog here.
But your response to Brandt is a prize example of how I prefer to see exchanges go ... but don't see often enough.
The lack of info is Palin policy. She is holding her cards close. Let the speculation swirl & buffet.
Opponents seek every way to jostle her off her position & course.
We've seen gambit after gambit, media people making up something that gives them a chance to talk about Palin, in a way that lets them control the 'debate' ... since actually, it's only them talking. Palin doesn't bite.
So now it's like; "Oh! She is running! And she'll be based in Arizona!"
We will see & know ... but not just yet. :)
When Bristol bought the house in Maricopa, my ears pricked right up. "Somethin' goin' on. Can't tell what ... not much info or rationale. Maybe could be a tip o' the political cards. No way to know for sure." Nothing has changed.
There are disadvantages to being based in Alaska, especially simple-logistical factors. But there are also advantages, and they play out on non-logistical levels that can be critical in hard-fought campaigns. Being Alaskan counts.
Does Ben Smith like Sarah Palin? Is he favorable in his treatment of her? Or do we expect him to poke a stick in her spokes, every chance that comes up?
As for Ben Smith's viewpoint... I don't know him, but it looks like an unfavorable view of Palin. The first reason he gives for the AZ location had nothing to do with politics. When he mentioned the two previous Republican presidential campaigns that came out of AZ, he didn't mention they lost. Will Palin's "refusal to retreat" result in her defeat as well?
It's encouraging, to know it works!
"Recommend" Veronica's Post? ;)
In the right side of Ben Smith's page is a box, "Search this Blog". I typed in 'palin', and he brings her up in his posts almost every day, and makes up for those he misses by pinging her several times on other days.
And he doesn't appear to actually be saying much about her. ;)
