Republican Christine O'Donnell who is running for the Senate in Delaware, was unable to name a single recent Supreme Court decision she disagreed with during a televised debate with her Democratic rival Chris Coons.
When asked what recent Supreme Court decisions she disagreed with she replied, "Um, I'm very sorry, right off the top of my head, I know that there are a lot, but I'll put it up on my website, I promise you."
Coons immediately answered that he disagreed with the court's decision regarding Citizens United earlier this year which loosened controls on campaign financing.
O'Donnell has struggled to deal with comments she has made in the past such as admitting she dabbled with witchcraft. She attempted to hit back at her Democratic opponent by calling him a Marxist.
"There are more people who support my Catholic faith than his Marxist belief," O'Donnell said. Mr Coons, who as a student said he admired Marxism. He said it had been a joke. Coons responded by saying he had never "been anything but a clean-shaven capitalist."
Coons said he supports abortion rights and embryonic stem cell research while opposing the ban on openly gay and lesbian soldiers from military service, and he backed most Obama administration policies, with a few refinements.
O'Donnell backed Republican positions such as calling for tax cuts and spending cuts to balance the budget, and she repeatedly said tough social issues such as abortion rights and teaching creation theory in public schools should be state or local issues instead of federal decisions.
What is your opinion? Who do you think won the debate?
