John McCain traveled to New Hampshire yesterday to campaign on behalf of Republican Senate candidate Kelly Ayotte. It was McCain's second trip to the Granite State this year, leading some to speculate that the veteran Senator might be planning another run for president in 2012. McCain debunked those rumors, clearly stating that he has no intention of running.
"I won't be back trying to get your support for president," McCain said. The remark evoked a chorus of disappointed boos from supporters.
During a speech in North Hampton, McCain talked about the economy, government spending, the deficit, and national debt. "The debt is now 13 trillion dollars and the spending goes on," he said. "And this administration and this president don't get it."
Kelly Ayotte stood quietly in the background as McCain stole the spotlight, railing against Democrats for almost 15 minutes. He may not be running for president again, but McCain clearly relished the chance to be back on the campaign trail in New Hampshire.
What do you think? Should John McCain run for president again?
