President Obama turned 49 yesterday, and spent his birthday in Chicago; celebrating with Oprah Winfrey in addition to other guests.
According to AZCentral, the president was "going stag" for his 49th birthday, since First Lady Michelle Obama and daughter Sasha were vacationing in Spain, and daughter Malia was away at camp. With only First Dog Bo Obama to accompany the president, he opted to hop a quick flight aboard Air Force I to Chicago where he celebrated his birthday with friends.
In addition to Oprah Winfrey and her pal Gayle King, good friends Eric Whittaker, Marty Nesbitt and Valerie Jarrett accompanied President Obama to Graham Elliot restaurant in Chicago, owned by Graham Elliot Bowles. Bowles once competed in Bravo's Top Chef Masters.
People Magazine reports that chef Graham Elliot made the following statement to their reporters regarding the president and his entourage coming in for dinner.
"We were humbled and honored that the president decided to join us for dinner on such a special occasion," chef Graham Elliot tells PEOPLE. "The [restaurant] team is super-psyched we have such a foodie sitting in the White House."
If one can't spend their 49th birthday with their family, this definitely sounds like an excellent 2nd place choice. Top chef, top food, good friends and the right mix of celebrities made President Obama's birthday something he will undoubtedly always remember. However, the memories will have to suffice, because sources say that by early Thursday morning he was back on duty, making an appearance at the Ford Motor Company's Chicago plant.
