Unfortunately calling the White House isn't what's needed. He can't do a single thing until congress passes a bill for him to sign. He can't sign a bill that hasn't even been drafted by Congress yet.

Call your Congressmen (the term for the person in the House of Representatives) and Senators. They need to start this bill today!

Uh oh.. I feel a rant coming on.. Watch out...

I have a question.. My question is where is the president on this?

Where is the leadership? You would think this issue would be above party lines and that addressing the hurting Americans would be just as important as addressing the bailing out of big financial institutions. He sure made a a lot of noise when they needed help.

Why doesn't he come out and issue a public address about the subject if he cares so much about the people, even if it is just to start a healthy debate? All the hurting long term unemployed hear are crickets chirping and delayed reports about the economy getting healthier.

I guess he is just to busy worrying about his long term agenda's instead of any hurting Americans right now. Maybe he and his administration really have no clue on how to fix things so they have decided to leave it to others. I guess he doesn't have time since he has to make an appearance on American Idol. The media really loves that story..

I can't stand either party any longer! I have not been able to really see any leader in power that actually cared about the people since Lincoln. I think the system is so corrupt and broken that it needs to be completely overhauled by the people.

I read a ton of political blogs and see the republican and democrat faithful fighting back and forth as if their spin is going to change the mind of someone who is on the fence. That bickering and loathing is what helps keep these corrupt politicians in power. God help them if we the people somehow all came together and made compromises.

That's what this country was founded on! Here is a little secret.... If you are not left, right, or center, what are you? The answer is an American..... The truth is in the words "divided we fall". If we don't get back to our roots and take back our country, we the people are going to continue to pay the price on the path to extinction!

Do you think the rich and powerful really care if we as a country fail? They have created their own little world and if we were to fall, they would be just fine. My children and grandchildren will no longer have the American dream soon. I know the answer to make that dream alive for them is in realistic compromise on both sides of the aisle...

We will always struggle with our own personal ethics, yet we have to make the tough choices together to make it work. It will never be the perfect little country each one of us wants! It can't be the way every single one of us envisions as right and just. Why keep playing a never ending game of right, left, and center if it never is going to change?

Looks like things are getting better for everyone!

Where is the leadership from the White House, you ask? Good question. He's working on getting Health Care Reform into law - and I believe he fears risking any support for that if he takes a stand on other issues.

This is acceptable behavior if he was still a junior Senator from Illinois... but he's graduated far above that position. It's too bad he apparently doesn't realize this.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - he needs to address the nation on a regular basis in a very visible forum. I've heard rumors that presidents have a weekly radio address, but I've never heard one - has anyone else?

It needs to be done in prime time on national television - at least monthly. The way it is now, he treats us as if he's abandoned us.

He sometimes does do Youtube announcements, and I think the weekly addresses on the radio are on Sunday.. NPR might carry them???

As far as the leadership goes, he is making time for everything but this issue. Yes he is still out promoting health care (which not everyone wants), but he is also speaking on other issues such as nuclear arms and such.

While these might be an important issues to him, it is not the most immediate need for this country. The health care bill has passed, so why does he need to promote it? The nuclear treaties could also be worked out at anytime down the road since the issue has been around for decades. The world community is, has, and always will be working on Iran and other countries that could be developing nuclear weapons.

Instead of working on our real problems at home, he chooses to focus his energy on every other issue to make a long term name for himself. Instead of going after short term real problems we have like the economy and the unemployed he chooses to look at what he wants the world to be.

He has also made time to tape a segment on American Idol to stop childhood obesity, yet he seems to have no time to address this issue. Maybe that is how we will cure child obesity? Take away the food from the table of the middle class citizens by denying benefits?

Don't get me wrong.. I really believe that any republican president would be doing the exact same things. The middle class keeps getting screwed for the elite power hungry agenda's. I'm so sick of it..

So we are back at the same place we were before.. Trying to get signatures to help our fellow Americans keep their dream alive.. So far, more than 11,000 people have signed this petition. As Mike said, how many does it take before these people are recognized?

It wouldn't surprise me if it is NPR. Hardly anyone listens to it.

As for YouTube... oh, that's just swell. Nifty keeno, even. I'm sure that people drop what they're doing just to search for his addresses. Among the hundreds of thousands of videos there. And those who have lost their benefits and no longer have internet access are supposed to watch this vid how?

This is why I say prime time network broadcast TV. It's "in your face." It reaches anyone who watches prime time TV - which is the same as saying "everyone." It interrupts their daily schedule - reminds them that things are going on outside their "little world" (we all have them, and we all need those reminders).

Health Care Reform isn't certain yet. There have been advances in this direction, but it's not finalized yet. he still needs his political backers. The irony is, IMHO, that if he would portray himself as the leader he's supposed to be... those same people he's courting would actually choose to back him because he's seen as a winner. Every politician want to be seen as backing a winner.

I just dropped by to spread the word that it's now passed the 11,000 mark! The more who know that this "extension" is not what they're being lead to believe it is, the better.

Yes, it's an extension - but I'd much rather it be called what it is: Filing deadline renewal. This is only necessary if there's anything to file for. For thousands of people every week, they lose their benefits because there's nothing left to file for.

Your right Jim, many do not realize what the extension really does. The media keeps twisting the facts giving people hope when there is none.

I do think that people are starting to become more educated about it and that is why the petition has grow so much in the last week.

I feel like Obama wants to crash the economy so he can have full control of everything we do albeit healthcare, unemployment, banking, credit, etc. He wants us to be beholden to him like a dictator of a a third world country. He's not going to do us any favors.

Just called Schumer and Reid. The people who answer the phones are clueless. They have no information whatsoever. They're probably getting paid to sit there and tell us nothing. They claim they will pass on the information, but will they? I've called everyday and I wonder how many reports have actually been made. Very few I'm sure.
