Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN): Foreign corespondent on enemy lines, helping to keep the folks back home arm
ed and dangerous.
Bachmann appeared over the weekend on the First Team radio show with John Hinderaker and Brian Ward, speaking about the horrible stuff that the Democrats are doing: "I'm a foreign correspondent on enemy lines and I try to let everyone back here in Minnesota know exactly the nefarious activities that are taking place in Washington."
Bachmann also spoke out against the cap-and-trade proposals currently making their way through Washington, and how she'll be distributing information against it at an upcoming event in the district. "I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax, because we need to fight back," said Bachmann. "Thomas Jefferson told us, having a revolution every now and then is a good thing. And the people - we the people - are going to have to fight back hard if we're not going to lose our country."
On the one hand, it seems clear that Bachmann was speaking figuratively. On the other hand, is it appropriate for a member of Congress to speak in any context about being armed for revolution?

The day-after newspaper headlines contradict her.
As for some changes bringing us to the brink of collapse from the INSIDE, a very large percentage of US citizens now think that is possible. Most of the rest are too busy trying to keep up with the NON rising cost of living (a bit of sarcasm there) that they haven't thought enough yet to see it.
A few are simply deceived and incapable of thinking for themselves. History will be the Judge.
Apparently the right wing Republicans are stupid enough to want a repeat of that particular kind of history.
She is just encouraging the downtrodden to have faith, and I don't think for a moment that she meant to do more than rally those whose outpouring of disdain for the thuggery in Washington has been considered so little by those who were supposed to represent them. And not rally to literal ARMS, but yes to stand in opposition.
Where many would disagree with Bachman is on the nature of tyranny. We all still have the right to vote, and the polls are going to be open less than 8 months from now. in my view, it's only "tyranny" if you are not giving the People a chance to change their minds. The People still have the right to vote, and the first amendment still exists. In fact, the Supreme Court recently enlarged the first amendment to allow Corporations unlimited rights to pay for political ads. Where's the tyranny? It's tyranny when you are losing, that is my perception of Bachman's political thought.
