Obama Joker Poster strikes LA

It looks like some as-yes-unidentified group has plastered a new anti-Obama poster in several conspicuous spots around Los Angeles.  The image is a take-off of Heath Ledger's Joker from The Dark Knight: it shows Barack Obama with a white face, extra-wide blood red lips, and two black eyes.  The version that's been posted around LA says "socialist," although I've seen similar images on the internet that say "why so socialist?"

What's your take on the Obama Joker poster?  Is it effective as an attention-getter?  As a mind-changer?

And more importantly, what do you think of the socialism charge?  Is Obama really trying spark a socialist revolution in America, or are conservatives just trying to smear him with a dirty word?

Yes we conservatives are trying to smear him......it's just that he is giving us all the ammunition, by trying to move in that direction.

Who cares, I don't other than the fact that the tax payers are going to have to pay for clean up. There will somebody that's anti somebody- it's nothing new IMO. The fact that Obama is ticking off the right wing extremist means he's doing his job well.

You know how many posters, stickers, etc. are plastered all over L.A.?? You're right, someone will always be anti something. I can walk down the street and see thousand of left wing posters and none of that stuff ever gets cleaned up, except when people pull it down themselves.

socialism. oooh such a scary word. We have not had unlimited capitalism in the USA for over a hundred years. It was a Republican president, Teddy Roosevelt, who started the process of reining in the abuses of rampant, self indulgent, unlimited capitalism.

Actually, Grover Cleveland and Benjamin Harrison signed the first two significant anti-trust laws. And I don't care what party a politician is a member of. Teddy Roosevelt ran again under the "Bull Moose" PROGRESSIVE party-- or did you forget?

By the way, the poster is unacceptable. it is laden with racism, white face hiding blackness, and plays up Obama as a secret menace. Obama has not done anything that he did not campaign on, and people gave him the majority of the votes. Fact.

By the way, does Obama intend for the federal government to own GM forever? No. The right wing sees an agenda where there is none.

I have never seen a wreck where nobody stops to help.Maybe a few republicons may pass but most humans will stop to render assistance.
I do believe the repubs have an anti-social streak, look out for number 1, to hell with the rest of the human race.

It looks like a villain in a silent horror movie. I don't see the resemblance to Obama even though I know it's an edited version of the portrait on his poster.

Neither case really outrages me. These images are just substitutes for honest dialogue. "Socialist" is a silly, inflated charge (where's the outrage against our socialist military and police/fire departments?) But it works as an effective fire bomb, and that's why conservatives use it.

I'm a proud and unapologetic liberal Democrat. But I have to agree somewhat with those on the Right making the charge that Dems exercise a double standard when it comes to rude and vulgar depictions or descritptions of presidents. While I absolutely disagreed with the policies and ideology of President Bush, I accepted that he truly believed in what he was doing and was not some evil monster hell bent on the demise of our nation. Vannity Fair's depiction of Bush was just as vulgar and offensive to me as this latest depiction of President Obama.

The fact of the matter is that the extreme members of both Parties have plenty to be ashamed of regarding thier behavior. I may be a card carrying Democrat, but I am just as disgusted by the extreme ultra liberal Left as I am by the people hating, gun toting extreme Right.

Pretty silly, but no more so than the t-shirt that was popular a couple of years ago that showed President Bush as a vampire sucking the blood from the neck of the Statue of Liberty. It's just preaching-to-the-congregation. It's not going to convince anybody of anything.
