YOU CAN TRY TO FOOL ALL THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME
Ok right from the start I will admit I am biased about the so called Iranian election. It appeared to me as to multitudes of others that the election was going to be a glorious upset. I can't imagine one woman voted for the so called leader in power. And the university students - like most university students tend to be drunk on freedom - particularly with Obama having a Muslim background. All of the planets surely seemed to be in conjunction.
Ok so it appears I was wrong and they were too. But wrong about what? That they lost - yes - but lost fairly or unfairly? The jury is out on that one. And I guess we will never know for certain. Except there is one over arching truth about this election - either the oppostion was way off in their estimates or they were right on meaning the fix was in.
Here comes my bias.
I think the elelction was rigged. I feel it in my voting bones. NPR doesn't lie and the feel of the reporters all over Iran the day before the election was a rising tide for the opposition.
So let's say I am right. So what? Here is where I have to hand it to the present leadership. If the fix was in - then you might as well go all the way over to the land of absurdity and really stick it in the oppositions' eye. And to boot bring inthe chief honcho cleric - Mr. religious - and have him declare that he has a direct pipe line to God (like our ex President) and was told that the so called election is divinely inspired.
However the wages of sin lead directly to cynicism. If, as I suspect the election should have had the opposit results this means there is going to be one hell of alot of smouldering anger which when repressed is only going to explode sooner or later. If I were the Mullah leadership I think I would not rest east tonight no matter how protected and supported they think they are by almighty God.
Careful of what you guys want - you apparently are getting it - but it is likely to bite you. Sweet Dreams!
P.S. For a "real and free" election, courtesy of the establisment, it is curious that the opposition leader has been missing for two days, theinternet has been turned off, the cell phone system is out of order. However twitter was somehow bypassed and has received thousands of messages indicating displeasure of the election in all parts of Iran. If this is an example of a real and free election God help us if there is ever a fake and fraudulent one in Iran.

Another revolution is on the horizon in Iran. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Conservatives never give up power without a fight and often assume it with one.
Thomas I agree...it will come.
Our comments on this site are dated and timed. Remember, I said there is another revolution coming in Iran; this time between government backed old-line clergy and the more forward-thinking younger generation. Watch for it on a t.v. set near you.
"islamic republic". Well it certainly is islamic, but it's not a republic anymore. The test of any revolution is simple: are you willing to let the people vote you out of power? In the case of the Mullahs, they apparently think that they only had to win one election to stay in power forever.
I think you are right Gibbs. There is always a reckoning. In our own Constitution, we decided to call slaves three fifths of a human being. Did not make it true. How many hundreds of thousands of lives in the Civil War did it take to fix that one?
Mousavi is nowhere to be found. He must be under arrest, guilty of the offense of truth telling.
And already the US is being blamed for the unrest. Shame on us and our bad, bad media! Watch out, World! Here comes Iran. (Gotta have someone to blame!)
Don'tcha know the US IS to blame for everything. Political, ecnonomical ect. Hell we even cause natural disasters.
Why bother having elections? Well, at least the rest of the world will know, going forward, that this is a sham. Ahmadinejad will be held in contempt by world leaders, as was w. over the past few years of his "residency".
HMMMM I seem to remember a similar thing happening closer to home a few years back.....a certain unelected radical fundamentalist who had no respect for international law was selected by a group of old men wearing black robes....hmmmm
Good reminder!
Other than being a mouthpiece, the President of Iran really is pretty powerless, so it's unlikely any serious change would have occurred no matter who "won." The interesting question is whether the 60% of Iranians that are under 30 will target their displeasure at the Iranian government instead of the US?
In total agreement with Gibbs.
The latest news indicates that the Mullahs may have seriously miscalculated the common man's desire for freedom. We may actually be on the verge of a serious revolution in Iran and from there who knows. Most of the woman and students are very Westernized. You can take dictate their dress codes but don't mess with their cell phones and computers.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has won fair and square even though people may not like it he is the winner. The opposition should move on.
I admit my bias Mr. Sparacio. How in your infinite wisdom are you so cocked sure Mr. Ahmadinejad has won "fair and square? " It looks more like he won unfair and unsquared.
Even if the election was rigged by 20 percent that would still give Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the presidency. It seems that the world is bent on destruction. I feel humans are fulfilling there internal predisposition of war, hate and violence. Let time heal this situation instead of a bunch of western trouble makers.
Mr. Sparacio - You are far from a peace maker with your over generalized insults. You are completely discredited.
I think you are right but I did expect that no matter who won, it wouldn't change things. That at least looks like we'll not find out if I was right or wrong.
As for women not voting for the incumbent, of course many did. Why not, many are in sympathy with what he stands for especially those connected to the regime or beneficaries of their welfare state.
This could be the straw that broke the camels back but so far everything seems none violent and contained. That argues this is a calculated government move to allow people to vent their anger in a non productive way rather than a threat to the state. I don't see the Mullahs nor the Revolutionary Guards giving up without bloodshed...
LOL, as for your anointment of NPR now....
Dear Mr. Timm - Looks like the Mullah's are blinking. As for npr - IT NEVER LIES.
I think the Mullahs should seriously consider taking a trip to the moon - and very quickly.
