One, no, they are not in "control" of the Senate, they don't have the magic sixty votes needed to be, and two, the article explains Dodd tried to limit them but was overruled by Treasury, who has to look at continuity of policy, among other things, and as we know, this did continue Bush policy on the Bailout bill.

As for truth, I'm not one that is convinced Obama can do anything God like, but he is a damned sight more palatable than the alternative we had...

We elected a President who has said repeatedly that ultimately HE is responsible for sorting out this mess. He's not playing the media blame game. He's looking toward what can be done to not let the irresponsible chit happen again. I saw that on Leno, that's for sure.

If Obama takes time to do a late night talk show, good for him! I enjoyed seeing him smile and joke, and remark about living in the bubble. It's about time we had a president who admits it's "cool" to ride in Air Force One. It's about time we had a president who realizes it's a PRIVILEGE to ride in style.

I think we can accuse Dodd of a lot of things, but I definitely don’t want to “blame” him for the AIG mess we are in. Still it’s nice to see that waffling going on in a strange sort of way. First of all the real issue is a red herring; these retention bonuses were given long before the Federal Funds were given to the company. So the question is that in giving the funds, thus eliminating the problems of bankruptcy, were these bonuses given a better treatment than under current bankruptcy law, as amended in 2005?

“Retention bonuses paid to insiders are permissible only if: (1) the bonus is essential to the retention of the insider because the insider has a bona fide job offer from another business at the same or greater rate of compensation; (2) the services provided by the insider are essential to the survival of the business; and (3) the amount of the bonus is not greater than 10 times the mean retention bonus paid to non-management employees during the year in which the bonus is paid to the insider, or if no retention bonuses are paid to non-management employees during the year, the amount of the bonus is not greater than 25% of the amount of any retention bonus paid to the insider in the preceding calendar year.”

Frankly I’m angrier at the amount of money given to AIG to in effect bail out foreign banks than I am about the money given to guarantee retention (not performance) bonuses given in good faith a year ago. I’m angry at the “death threats” these people have received, including from members of congress!

His poll numbers are normal, as the elected get down to actually dealing with governing, and a damned sight better than 30%, which is what your brain trust went out on, last I knew.

You might also want to take a look at Congressional Republican poll numbers, for a real indicator. Just sayin'

As far as Obama's ratings, he continues to be waaaaay up there where he should be. He's doing a great job and all Americans need to support him.
