Comments About Sarah Palin from A Citizen of Alaska

This note was sent by a friend of mine who has a friend living in Alaska:

As for Sarah Palin, she is in no way qualified to be either VP or President, and I won't be voting for her. She has spunk and energy. She has taken on the crooks in Alaska 's Republican party, and she has moved the gas line forward. But she is very pro-life and not at all supportive of many of the hard won issues for women. She would take Bush's stands on issues like abortions and birth control and move them even farther to the right. And her religious views make her very prone to the type of black and white thinking that has gotten us into so much trouble for the last eight years. She does not understand or appreciate nuanced views very well, and she is not very culturally sensitive. Further, she is not nearly as bright, well educated, or wise about the larger world as either Obama or Biden.

This echoes the thoughts I have about Palin. Worse, I fear she may feel she has all the rights while she would steadfastly put women in general back a 100 years.

She frightens me. Her stands frighten me. Her inexperience frightens me. Her blanket statements frighten me. I should not have to fight again for my rights as a woman. But if she and McCain get in, we will have to start all over again.

This is what makes many of the conservatives so scary. They want to return to the days of no birth control for women and back alley abortions.

Just in: Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain's Republican ticket.

Whatever she says, a woman does not get to be a VP candidate by NOT believing in women's rights. Surely she cannot be one of those "sit down and shut up" Christian women who think they always have to defer to men? In that case, what kind of President would her husband make?
