Legendary comedian George Carlin has died at the age of 71. Carlin suffered heart failure yesterday in Los Angeles. Although Carlin's award-winning career spanned decades and included stand-up, films, television, and 21 comedy albums… Carlin was best known for his routine "Seven Words You Can Never Say On Television." When Carlin uttered all seven at a show in Milwaukee in 1972, he was arrested for disturbing the peace. Carlin, who was also an author, was slated to receive the 2008 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor this November, given by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Former NBC nightly news anchor Tom Brokaw will fill Tim Russert's shoes on "Meet The Press", at least through the 2008 presidential election. Tim Russert, died unexpectedly 11 days ago. Brokaw anchored the "NBC Nightly News" for 22 years and stepped down four years ago. He is now the special correspondent for NBC News.
Just when you thought gas prices couldn't get any higher, up they go. AAA says the average price of regular unleaded has spiked 10-cents in the last two weeks bringing it to $4.10 a gallon. The cost of gasoline remains a heavy burden for drivers: The national average is more than a dollar higher than it was a year ago.

What a shame about George Carlin. May he RIP.
I need gas so I will see the crush at the pumps later today. Grrr
Have a nice day now and Thanks!!
George Carlin gone, Wow.
Has anyone seen the video, exposing the oil crisis, done by Lindsey Williams? Just curious.
George Carlin was a very funny man and struck blow for free speech in comedy, He will be missed.
It is such a shame about Tim Russert. Tom Brokaw is a good fill in for the time being.
Gas is just crazy right now and getting crazier seemingly by the minute if not the day!
Thanks Pam!
As for gas prices, i just got back from Southern California where I was paying $4.75 for regular unleaded. Some places were over $5.00. What killed me was paying those prices while looking at a line of oil rigs just off the coast. If only that oil stayed here instead of going to China.
And, Rosa See Ya, that video by Lindsey Williams is a worthwhile view if anyone wants to check it out (by just googling his name). Thanks for mentioning this - yet another example of the cult of deception that we have become mired in...
Until I read George Carlin's obituary today, I didn't knowaaasw21`
What I wanted to say was, I didn't know until reading the obituary, that Carlin had been arrested for obscenities at a concert. He was very bold and forged a path that many other comedians followed, but never quite reached the heights of George Carlin.
I notice Rufus also managed to type a "word" in the line before it sent it....you may be seeing his obituary soon...
"Rufus, prolific typing cat"
I Think Brokaw will be OK in for Tim, although more biased about it. Maybe he will try to be more balanced in Tim's memory. From what I have seen of him, I think Luke could be an eventual replacement. He is a lot like his dad.
George Carlin was truly an original.
Imitated many many times, never outdone.
Brokaw will do the show honor.
Today we have George Carlin's face illustrating THREE featured articles--here, under "News" (reasonable), and "Movies" (tenuous, at best--the man made a few cameo appearances in films). Pretty much the same thing happened when Tim Russert passed away. I understand the interest, and newsworthiness, but Gather seems to be in danger of turning into some kind of obituary web-site. Seems like overkill to me.
