Remember those old gangster movies when Harvey Keitel the mature, unemotional, experienced pro along with his crew was brought in by the mob to clean up after a totally botched and particularly bloody murder. He would come in with his heavy suitcases full of god knows what tools and acidic compounds to clean up all the gore, blood and fingerprints. Without recriminations or blaming anyone he would quickly size up the situation and start telling everyone there, what their job was in the cleanup effort.
Fast forward to November, 2006, Washington D.C. James Baker and his Iraq Study Crew are sent in to clean up after Bush. Bush's first assignment is to get rid of Rumsfeld and replace him with Gates another member of the cleanup crew. Tune in again for updates on this cleanup effort. Learn whether there is any truth to the rumor that Baker will recommend burying all of Iraq in 35 feet of concrete so as to cover the evidence and get a fresh start.

Bush, Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz and Rumsfeldnever served in the
military BUT they believe know how to run wars.
Generals hould manage wars!!!
As you well know the Pres. is Commander in Chief. Sometimes it works out.
You're right Tony, it is a serious matter.
Hope they can come up with something better than that.
Again with the pop-off!
The guard was just as likely to be called up to serve in Nam as today!
Hell, we are destined to walk the same path as in Nam. RETREAT! It will be because by the recent vote, the people have demanded the proscecution of this war be removed from the Generals hands and passed to the Politicians - ala Nam.
CNN and every MSM has gleefully announced every single death every single hour. Even shown the aftermath when possible.
Just wait to see the aftermath of this crap!
How many suicide bombers HERE will it take to break our will and impose Shira Law to appease the Muslim faith!
We will see a huge number of 'refugess' from Iraq.
NO nation will trust us again to stand with them for freedom.
Osama was RIGHT, we will not stomach the cost necessary to defeat a suicidal foe.
Iran will control the region including Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq for starters. Suicide bombers and WMD's at hand. Unlimited funds available.
On bumpy ride ahead because the Dems are 'Smarter and Tougher" and will TALK it out.
S**T-Fire!
Lee Hamilton, former Democrat chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, joined him in stacking the Commission's study groups with men and women representing the pre-9/11 foreign policy consensus, which could be summarized in the phrase, "stability through disengagement".
It also failed to address the "wall of seperation" imposed by Jamie Gerlick that prevented the sharing of info between the FBI and CIA so proscecutions could be better obtained. She was on the 9-11 Commission and NEVER had to testify. (It was a result of the Alderige Ames prosecution when they did not obtrain a FISA warrant before taping him - Keith Decision.
History of incompetence - a historical deju-vu!
I have found myself at odds with Joe more than I have agreed with him, but on this I back him. The National Guard was formed to protect against invasions on American soil, not to be shipped off to foreign non-wars.
That Guard members have been shipped to Iraq speaks volumes to how weak the US military really has become... I'm sorry, man, but all the talk of the mighty US military is smoke screen.
And none of that was in any way an insult to anyone in any branch of the service. I have a son in law in Iraq as I type this. It pisses me off that he was sent to possibly die over false pretenses.
Your right about the Reserves. They
were called up in Nam, Korea and WWII. Unshackling the military from civilian control opens up the country to military abuse of power as in Latin American history and Pakistan. Military coups have a long tradition. Then there was Eisenhowers warnings about a military industrial complex. Power corrupts. Thats why restraints of some sort are always necessary
Sorry guys, I just checked and the Reserves were called up in WWII and in Korea, it goes back a long time.
Lori I just researched the matter:
One side took the position that having been a member of the National Guard does not constitute military service. In researching the matter it turns out that both the Guard and the Reserves have long histories of having served in wars going back to Korea, WWII and further. The reason for the confusion is that the National Guard has historically been defined and controlled at the level of state. They have, however been called to national service by the president for overseas war assignments many times. So, the distinction is not as absolute as some have maintained. Below is a quote that fleshes some of this out.
"The definition of the term "reserve" varies depending on the context. In one context, as used here in this article, it applies to all seven of the reserve components of the U.S. military. In another context, it applies to only the five reserve components directly associated with the five active duty military services but not to the Army National Guard nor the Air National Guard.
In most respects, the Army National Guard and Air National Guard are very similar to the Army Reserve and Air Force Reserve, respectively. The primary difference lies in the level of government to which they are subordinated. The Army Reserve and Air Force Reserve are subordinated to the federal government while the National Guards are subordinated to the various state governments, except when called into federal service by the President of the United States or as provided for by law."
